Hurriyat’s Syed Geelani gets passport for the first time in 20 yrs: The regional passport officer in Kashmir Firdous Iqbal verified a short validity passport was sent by means of a post on his address to the Hurriyat leader.
It’s going to be for the very first time before two decades that Geelani is going to be permitted to travel abroad. In 2007, 2008 and 2011, Geelani was refused a passport thrice before.
The issuance of the passport comes after Geelani completed the form and mentioned Indian in the nationality section of the passport form.
Although he afterwards said, “I ‘m not by birth an Indian. It’s a compulsion.”
86, Geelani, had applied to see with Saudi Arabia in May to meet with today, his younger daughter Farhat Jabeen Geelani, who’s not keeping nicely.
“She’s experiencing serious nerve issues and is getting excited about seeing her dad. Geelani sahib is greatly attached to her and is determined to find out her,” Hurriyat representative Ayaz Akbar said.
Farhat, together with her husband in Saudi Arabia’s capital Jeddah, is residing in her 30s for quite some time now.
Although the political parties in the state are yet to react to Geelani getting a passport, a senior PDP leader said, “Nothing more should be read in it than enabling him to travel on humanitarian reasons”.
The passport was issued on the day when national security adviser Ajit Doval is in the town and held a succession of meetings with chief minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, military and police officials.
